Minimally Invasive (Laparoscopic and Thoracoscopic) Surgery

Description of Clinical Program
This program provides the latest techniques in laparoscopic, thoracoscopic, or minimally invasive surgery. A small incision is made around the umbilicus or in the chest allowing the introduction of a specialized telescope or camera. Other instruments are inserted via additional small incisions or ports.

In certain procedures such as gallbladder surgery, antireflux surgery, pelvic surgery, and cancer surgery, these techniques can avoid large incisions and reduce the time needed for recovery. Laparoscopic surgery can be performed on infants and children of any size. Consultation is readily available regarding the suitability of this approach for an individual child’s problem.
