Dr. Jessica O’Connell completed her bachelor’s degree in Biochemistry at Rice University. She continued her education in Houston where she was awarded the M.D. degree with honors from University of Texas at Houston.  She returned to her home town of Los Angeles for General Surgery residency at UCLA, where she stayed to complete a Vascular Surgery fellowship. Upon completion of her fellowship, Dr. O’Connell joined the faculty of the UCLA Division of Vascular Surgery at the Gonda (Goldschmied) Vascular Center.

Dr. O’Connell is currently Co-Chief of Vascular Surgery and Associate Director of Surgery and Perioperative Care at the West Los Angeles Veterans Affairs Hospital, and Assistant Professor of Vascular Surgery at the David Geffen School of Medicine at UCLA.

Dr. O’Connell specializes in both minimally invasive endovascular treatment and open reconstructive vascular surgery with particular interest in venous disease and varicose veins. In addition to her clinical practice, Dr. O’Connell also maintains an active interest in surgical research particularly in the area of Surgical Outcomes and Medical and Surgical Education. She performed a research fellowship at the University of California, Los Angles with a focus on outcomes in General and Vascular Surgery. She is the author of several book chapters in both General Surgery and Vascular Surgery textbooks. Dr. O’Connell has presented her original work at multiple national and regional surgical meetings and has original publications in numerous national and international peer-reviewed journals. She is the recipient of multiple teaching awards and maintains an active role in surgical education at the David Geffen School of Medicine at UCLA.
