Timothy A. Miller, M.D., F.A.C.S. is Professor of Surgery and Chief of Plastic Surgery at UCLA and Chief of the Plastic Surgery Section at the West Los Angeles (Wadsworth) V.A. Medical Center.
Dr. Miller directs a productive research laboratory at Wadsworth V.A., which studies the molecular biological events surrounding the creation of new bone.
Dr. Timothy Miller has a strong reputation for a wide range of plastic surgery involving burn reconstruction, skin cancer, nose reconstruction, and cosmetic surgery. In recent years, Dr. Miller's practice has been more focused on cosmetic surgery, and skin cancer and its reconstruction. He has contributed significantly to our understanding and practice of cosmetic surgery of the eyelids and the facelift.
In Dr. Miller's 30-year career, he has produced a steady number of high quality publications - both in basic science and in clinical surgery. His very successful laboratory has trained post-doctoral fellows and residents. His research on bone morphogenetic protein and intercellular communication has been highly productive and well-recognized. In 1992, Dr. Miller was awarded the best Research paper from the American Society of Maxillofacial Surgeons. His work on new bone formation was awarded the annual research award by the ASPS, V.A. Merit Review Funding, and private donations. Under Dr. Miller's supervision, Dr. George Rudkin has also been awarded a V.A. career development award of $438,000.
Dr. Miller has been active in all the major professional societies, including the American Society of Plastic Surgeons (ASPS) and the American Society of Aesthetic Plastic Surgery (ASPS), and one may often find him as moderator or presenter at plastic surgery meetings.
Among the many leadership positions he has held, Dr. Miller has served as Director for the American Board of Plastic Surgery, Co-Editor of the prestigious Journal of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery where he was responsible for revitalizing the aesthetic surgery portion of the journal. As a teacher, Dr. Miller is noted for his preciseness in thinking and surgical execution. The residents have also benefited greatly from learning from him the style and craft of plastic surgery practice.
