Kawamoto, Henry K. JR. M.D., DDS,

Henry K. Kawamoto, Jr., MD, DDS, FACS is Clinical Professor of Plastic Surgery, Director of the UCLA Craniofacial Clinic, and the Chief of Plastic Surgery at the Sepulveda V.A. Hospital (now known as the Southern California System of Clinics). Dr. Kawamoto's clinical and research activities focus on craniomaxillofacial surgery. He is actively involved in continuing education for plastic surgery and serves as Chairman of the Credential and Requirements Committee for the American Board of Plastic Surgery. Also, he has served as the President of the California Society of Plastic Surgeons, Historian for the American Society of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery, President of both the American Society of Maxillofacial Surgeons and the American Society of Craniofacial Surgeons, and Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the American Society of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgeons. He has been on numerous editorial boards, including Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery and the Journal of Cleft Palate-Craniofacial Surgery.
Dr. Kawamoto is a world-eminent craniofacial surgeon and is greatly committed to the residents' education in craniofacial surgery and cleft lip and palate surgery. To honor Dr. Kawamoto's contributions, the Henry K. Kawamoto Lectureship in craniofacial surgery was established in 1998 - through the generosity of former craniofacial fellows, colleagues, and even the Ninth People's Hospital in Shanghai. This will be a biannual lectureship featuring leaders of the specialty. The inaugural lecture in March 1998 was given by Dr. Paul Tessier, the father of craniofacial surgery and with whom Dr. Kawamoto trained during his craniofacial surgery fellowship. Dr. Tessiers's lecture and his clinic visit with long-term patients was videotaped by the PSEF and won an award.
