Fubon Foundation
The pediatric surgical research program is generously supported by the Fubon Foundation. As a part of its mission, the foundation has established a pediatric surgical research fellowship for international scholars. Research fellows will spend two years conducting research in the Division of Pediatric Surgery at UCLA. Reseach focus: fetal intestinal motility
Dr. Oyachi is a surgery resident from Japan. His work involved understanding the
development of motility in the fetal intestine. He published several papers during his research fellowship and
presented his results at the American Pediatric Surgical Association meeting in
2003.

Dr. DeUgarte is a surgery resident at UCLA. His work involved the regeneration of
intestinal tissues using stem cells and biological materials. He published many articles and presented at
numerous national meetings. He will
start pediatric surgical training in Michigan in July 2005.

Dr. Chao is a surgery resident from Taiwan. She worked on the molecular mechanisms by

She presented her work at the annual meeting of the American College of

pediatric surgeon in Taiwan.

Mr. Lee is a graduate student in the biomedical engineering
program at UCLA. He is developing a
biodegradable scaffold for intestinal regeneration.
Jinyoung Park, M.D.

Research focus: intestinal lengthening by mechanical force
Dr. Park is a pediatric surgeon from Korea. He is working on intestinal lengthening
using mechanical force. He presented
his results in the annual meeting of the Pacific Association of Pediatric
Surgeons in 2004.

Research Focus: neural crest stem cells and Hirschsprung’s disease
Dr. Mendoza is a surgical resident at UCLA. She is studying a mouse model of
Hirschsprung’s disease and the delivery of neural crest stem cells.
