The Division of Neurosurgery offers a one and two-year clinical fellowship in microneurosurgery with an emphasis on skull base surgery, neurovascular surgery, and neurosurgical research. The fellow participates in the evaluation and management of patients with skull base and neurovascular lesions as well as following patients with neurovascular lesions treated by endovascular therapy and stereotactic radiosurgery. The research component of the fellowship consists of clinical projects within the skull base and neurovascular laboratory. Research Fellowship in Neurotrauma and Neuro-Critical Care:
This fellowship includes advanced training in transcranial Doppler and xenon-133 cerebral blood flow measurement in patients with critical neurosurgical disorders as well as training in the techniques of cerebral microdialysis and measurements of cerebral metabolism and positron emission tomography (PET) for the study of patients with acute brain injury. There is extensive opportunity for participation in and initiation of academic research projects involving newly collected data, and review of computer archived physiological data. Research Fellowship in Stereotactic Radiosurgery
The stereotactic radiosurgery fellowship offers M.D. or Ph.D. candidates six months to one year of research training on shaped beam radiosurgery and fractionated radiosurgery, as well as additional basic research projects. Fellowship in Spinal Neurosurgery
The spinal fellowship is a one-year program which offers extensive clinical training in a full range of complex spinal surgery, including neoplastic, infectious, and traumatic disorders, as well as microsurgery of the spinal cord and endoscopy. There is ample opportunity for both basic science and clinical research. Applicants must have completed a neurosurgical residency and should apply 18 months in advance of the July 1st start date.
