Steven Han received his undergraduate degree in biochemistry at the University of California, Berkeley and then attended medical school at Albany Medical College in Albany, New York where he received his M.D. degree. Following a residency in Internal Medicine at Santa Clara Valley Medical Center and Stanford University, Dr. Han completed a clinical fellowship in hepatology at the University of Southern California under the guidance of Telfer B. Reynolds. He then trained at the University of California, Los Angeles, where he completed a clinical fellowship in gastroenterology. Since that time, Dr. Han has practiced as a Transplant Hepatologist and Gastroenterologist at UCLA, where he is now a Clinical Instructor in the Division of Digestive Diseases and the Division of Liver and Pancreas Transplantation. He serves as a co-director of subspecialty medical education and is responsible for developing the lecture series on liver diseases for the third year UCLA medical students. He also serves as the Director of the Liver/Hepatitis clinic at the West Los Angeles Veterans Administration Medical Center where he is studying the impact of, and possible treatments for chronic hepatitis C in United States veterans. Dr. Han has an active role in the clinical training of medical students, medical residents, and subspecialty fellows.
Dr. Han’s research interests have focused on the treatment of chronic viral hepatitis, the prevention of recurrent viral hepatitis after liver transplantation, and the treatment of fulminant liver failure where he is one of the principal investigators of the Bio-Artificial Liver Support Study. He also has an interest in studying the patterns of development and possible treatments of hepatocellular carcinoma in patients with chronic liver disease. He has published many articles in the area of viral hepatitis and liver transplantation and continues to lecture actively on these subjects to other physicians and specialists.
