Dr. Hasan Yersiz has been a member of the Liver Transplant Program at UCLA since 1995. He is currently a Professor of Surgery in the Division of Liver and Pancreas Transplantation at UCLA.
Dr. Yersiz completed his undergraduate and graduate medical training in Turkey. Subsequently, he completed postgraduate training in general surgery, hepatobiliary disease, and microsurgery in Instanbul. He then pursued his interest in clinical and experimental liver and pancreas transplantation at the University of Wisconsin under Drs. Sollinger, Belzer, and Kalayoglu. Dr. Yersiz first visited UCLA from 1992 to 1994, during which time he trained extensively under Dr. Ronald Busuttil. He joined the Dumont-UCLA Transplant Center full-time in 1995, and was appointed to the clinical faculty in 1998.
Since his arrival at UCLA, Dr. Yersiz has developed a keen interest in multivesicular organ procurement. His dedication to this discipline has resulted in his direction of over 2,000 solid organ retrievals. His clinical interests have expanded into the largest program of in-situ segmental liver procurement in the World.
Dr. Yersiz' clinical interests are in the fields of hepatic anatomy, microsurgical reconstruction of vascularized solid organs, liver and pancreas transplantation, and the expansion of the donor pool through the use of marginal donors, split livers, and living donor liver transplantation.
