Dr. Amid is Director of the Lichtenstein Hernia Institute and one of the world's foremost experts on hernia surgery. Dr. Amid was the partner of Dr. Irving Lichtenstein in Los Angeles. He and Dr. Lichtenstein perfected and promoted the tension-free Lichtenstein repair that now is the most widely-utilized open herniorrhaphy technique in the world. Dr. Amid has personally performed approximately 10,000 Lichtenstein repairs, as well as a wide variety of operations for incisional and other hernias. He has been sole director of the Institute since Dr. Lichtenstein's death in 2000. A surgical scholar, Dr. Amid has written widely on herniorrhaphy techniques, bioprostheses, and post-herniorrhaphy pain syndromes. He is past president of the American Hernia Society and has served as visiting professor in many institutions worldwide.
